Projects are proposed by teachers or by the public. The GEEE board of Directors reviews the proposals and determines which ones are worthy of funding, based on a number of criteria, including:
- The total amount of funds available for distribution.
- The number of students affected by the projects. The GEEE board desires to fund projects that affect the highest number of students.
- The distribution of funds to all grade levels and to all schools in the district. The GEEE board desires to benefit students from kindergarten through 12th grade each school year.
- Non-preferential treatment for any particular segment of the student population. The GEEE board desires to avoid projects that only benefit certain groups of students, e.g., gifted, disadvantaged, older, younger, boys or girls, or any other sub-category of student.
To date, literally hundreds of projects have been funded by GEEE, benefiting thousands of district #228 students. It is the objective of GEEE to, in some way, reach every student within the district every year.
